Solar Power Auditor is written and tested by Scott Caine and published for general information. You may read it, link to it, and quote it with attribution. You may not republish substantial portions of it as your own work, or scrape it to generate derivative product content.

This is the section that matters, so I'll be direct about it.

The measurements on this site are mine, taken on the unit I tested. They follow the procedure published at how I test and rate, and I cross-check them against independent laboratory figures where any exist. I can't guarantee the unit you buy will behave the same. Units vary in production, firmware updates change behaviour (one unit's fast-charge setting reset itself after an update during my testing), and batteries change with age and temperature.

Observed runtimes reflect my equipment. Figures from my outage drills, CPAP nights and camping trips come from my fridges, my CPAP machine, my circuits and my weather. My CPAP, for example, draws less than most. Your results will differ.

Runtimes and costs per watt-hour are calculated unless a page says otherwise. They come from applying fixed, published assumptions to my measured capacity figure. Real-world results will differ with temperature, load profile, cable losses, battery age and the specific unit. The assumptions are listed at how I test and rate so you can check whether they resemble your situation.

Manufacturer figures are claims. Where a page quotes a manufacturer's specification, including cycle life and warranty terms, it is attributed to the manufacturer and has not been verified by me unless the page says so. My testing runs for weeks, not years.

Specifications change without notice. Manufacturers revise products under the same name, and sell different products under near-identical names. The figures here reflect what I tested and what was published on the date shown at the top of the page. Check the exact model and the manufacturer's current specification before you buy.

Prices are list prices on the date stated. They are not offers, they are not what you will pay, and I don't track them.

Lithium battery systems also store a great deal of energy. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on charging temperature, ventilation, water ingress and load limits. Do not exceed a unit's rated output because a guide here suggested a load profile, or because a unit held a higher load during my overload testing.

Pages on this site that discuss CPAP machines and other medical equipment describe my own testing and arithmetic. They are not medical or equipment advice. A CPAP's power draw varies significantly with pressure setting, mask leak, altitude compensation and heated tubing. If the therapy is medically necessary during outages, discuss backup power with your equipment supplier rather than relying on a website.
