Cheap and good value are different things, and in this category they pull in opposite directions. The cheapest unit we cover is also the worst value per watt-hour, because the inverter, case, screen and controller cost roughly the same whether they are wrapped around 288 watt-hours or 1,024.
So the useful figure is list price divided by independently measured usable capacity — not by the rating. The best budget power stations ranks them that way, and the answer is not the cheapest box on the shelf.
The sub-1 kWh class is where the trade-offs bite hardest: our EcoFlow River 2 Pro review covers the lightest unit on the site, which is also the least efficient thing anyone has measured. For why that happens, see rated vs usable capacity.
