The River 2 Pro is easy to like and hard to recommend. At 18.4 lb it is the lightest unit here by a clear margin, and it refills in under an hour and twenty minutes. It also loses more of its rated capacity to conversion than anything else we cover.
What the measurement says
OutdoorGearLab measured 620 watt-hours delivered from a rated 768 Wh — 81%.[1]
That is the weakest result of any unit on this site apart from the much smaller Anker SOLIX C300.[2] The class norm is 85–87%.
148 watt-hours disappear between the rating and the socket. In practical terms that is about three and a quarter hours of camp fridge you were told you had and do not.
What 620 watt-hours runs

Thirteen and three quarter hours of camp fridge covers one night. It does not comfortably cover two. And with 800 W of continuous output this is not a unit for anything with a heating element — a 1,000 W kettle will simply not start.[4]
Weight and recharge — the case for it
18.4 lb measured, against a claimed 18.2.[1][4] That is six pounds lighter than the lightest 1 kWh unit and it is genuinely a different experience to carry.
Recharge was measured at 1 hour 18 minutes from empty, against EcoFlow's 70-minute claim.[1][4] Eight minutes over is close enough to call honest.
For a unit that goes in a rucksack for an overnight, or lives in a car for emergencies, those two properties are the whole appeal.
Where it falls short
81% efficiency. The worst of any full-size unit measured here.[1]
220 W solar ceiling. The lowest on this site.[4] Two 100 W panels are effectively the maximum useful array, and real-world recharge from them is slow.
800 W output. Enough for a fridge, laptops and lighting; not enough for a kettle, a heater, a microwave above about 700 W, or most power tools.[4]
A 30 ms EPS switchover, three times slower than the sub-10 ms figures EcoFlow quotes on its Delta units.[4] Fine for a fridge, marginal for a desktop computer.
Two different list prices. EcoFlow's own pages give $529 on one and $649 on another.[4] We use the lower. That is a manufacturer contradicting itself about its own price, which is an odd thing to have to note.

What to buy instead
At $529 list, the River 2 Pro sits awkwardly between two better options.
Bluetti AC70 — $359. Same 768 Wh rating, but 690 measured usable against 620, more output at 1,000 W, a 500 W solar ceiling against 220 W, and it expands to 1,574 Wh.[5][6] It costs $170 less and is better in almost every measurable respect. Its figure comes from StorageReview rather than OutdoorGearLab, so the percentages are not strictly comparable — but 690 Wh against 620 Wh is a comparison of watt-hours, and watt-hours are watt-hours.
Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 — $499.99. Less than the River 2 Pro's list price, for 890 measured usable watt-hours instead of 620 — 44% more energy for less money — plus 2,000 W of output.[7][8] The penalty is 6.8 lb of extra weight.

Is the EcoFlow River 2 Pro worth buying?
Only if weight is your binding constraint. At 18.4 lb it is the lightest unit here, but it returns just 81% of its rating and the Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 offers 44% more usable energy for less money.[1][7]
How long does it run a fridge?
About 13 hours 45 minutes for a 12 V camp fridge averaging 45 W, or about 11 hours 50 minutes for a full-size household fridge at 150 W and 35% duty. Calculated from the measured 620 Wh usable capacity.
Why is its usable capacity so low?
Partly physics — the inverter and electronics overhead is a bigger share of a small pack — and partly this specific unit. Comparable small units did better: the Bluetti AC70 measured 690 Wh from the same 768 Wh rating.[5]
Can it run a kettle or a microwave?
No to a kettle, and only a small microwave. Its continuous output is 800 W with a 1,600 W surge, so a 1,000 W kettle will not start and a 700 W microwave would empty it in under an hour.[4]
How much does it actually cost?
EcoFlow's own pages quote both $529 and $649 as the list price.[4] We use $529. It is frequently discounted well below either.
Buy it only if the weight decides it
The River 2 Pro is a well-made, genuinely portable unit that refills quickly, and it is the lightest thing on this site. If you are carrying a power station in a pack rather than a car, that matters and this is your unit.
For anyone else the arithmetic is unkind. The Bluetti AC70 costs $170 less and delivers 70 more usable watt-hours with more output and more than twice the solar ceiling. The Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 costs less than this unit's list price and delivers 44% more energy.
81% of rated capacity is the number to sit with. On a small pack that is 148 watt-hours you were told you had and do not — and there are better small packs.
