The Best Power Stations for Home Backup (2026) — What Actually Keeps a Fridge Cold

A power station does not back up your house. It backs up a handful of circuits for a number of hours, and that number is calculable — from a measurement, not from the box.

Start with hours, not watt-hours

"Will it back up my house" is the wrong question, because none of these back up a house. The right question is: which circuits, for how many hours?

A realistic outage load is not a whole home. It is a refrigerator, some lights, the router and a few phones. That comes to roughly 250 W on average — and from there the arithmetic is simple.

A 1 kWh unit runs a refrigerator overnight and no more. If the outage lasts into a second day you are choosing between the fridge and everything else. If your local outages are measured in days rather than hours, the 1 kWh class is not the right class, however good the individual unit is.

It is also the only unit here with an independent measurement and genuine 120/240 V split-phase output, which is what a well pump, an electric dryer or a central air handler requires.[2] Expansion runs to 12 kWh on one unit and 48 kWh as a paired system.

Against it: 114 lb, $3,699, and a measured peak charge rate of about 1,600 W against 1,800 W advertised.[1]

Thirty-six hours of fridge for $1,199, with 6,000 cycles to 80% — the longest rated life on this site — and 2,600 W of output.[3][5]

For the common case, this is the better buy. Most outages are hours, not days. A day and a half of refrigeration covers the overwhelming majority of them at a third of the Delta Pro 3's price.

It is 120 V only, so nothing 240 V will run from it. And its figures come from StorageReview rather than OutdoorGearLab, so the percentage is not directly comparable with the rest of this table.[3]

1,710 Wh measured usable at 38.9 lb — 44 usable watt-hours per pound, the best carry ratio on this site.[9] If the same unit has to do outage duty in winter and camping duty in summer, this is the compromise.

For pure backup it is the weaker choice: a 400 W solar ceiling, cycles rated to 70% rather than 80%, and a measured 2 h 30 recharge against a claimed 1 h 45.[10][9]

The Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus beats the Delta Pro 3 on paper in almost every respect: 6,000 W continuous against 4,000 W, 9,000 W surge against 8,000 W, 120/240 V split-phase, expansion to 26.9 kWh, and $1,300 cheaper.[4] Its list price fell permanently from $4,799 to $2,499 in May 2026.[11]

We do not rank it, because no independent laboratory has published a usable-capacity measurement for it. The most substantial hands-on review says plainly that it is a practical assessment rather than a controlled test.[12]

⚠ Anker's
The F3800 Plus product page gives the weight as both 132.3 lb and 136.7 lb, and the solar input as both 1,600 W and 3,200 W.[4] Neither is a small discrepancy, and both appear on the same page. That is not evidence the unit is bad — but it is a reason to want an independent measurement before spending $2,400.

If you buy it, you are buying a specification sheet. That may well be the right call — the specification is excellent. It is simply a different kind of decision from the one this site is built to support.

What a power station cannot do

Running a fridge from an extension lead is a purchase. Powering circuits through your breaker panel is an installation — it needs a transfer switch or interlock, and in most US jurisdictions a licensed electrician and an inspection. Backfeeding a circuit incorrectly can energise the utility line and kill someone working on it. Nothing here is installation guidance; see our terms.

None of these will run central air conditioning for any useful period, an electric water heater, or an electric range. A 900 W window air conditioner will run about four hours on the Delta Pro 3 and about two on the Elite 200 V2.

FAQ

How long will a power station run a refrigerator?

About 17 hours for a 1 kWh unit, 33–36 hours for a 2 kWh unit and roughly 72 hours for a 4 kWh unit, assuming a full-size 150 W fridge cycling at about 35% duty. All calculated from independently measured usable capacity, not observed.

What size power station do I need for a power outage?

Work out your average draw and multiply by the hours you want to cover. Fridge, lights, router and phones is roughly 250 W, so a 12-hour outage needs about 3,000 Wh of usable capacity — which, at a typical 85% efficiency, means a unit rated around 3,500 Wh. Most people significantly under-buy.

Can a portable power station run my whole house?

No. They run selected circuits. Even the largest here would not sustain central air conditioning, an electric range or an electric water heater for a useful length of time, and connecting to house wiring requires a transfer switch and licensed installation.

Do I need 240 V for home backup?

Only for genuine 240 V appliances — a well pump, an electric dryer, most central air handlers, an electric range. Everything on a standard household circuit is 120 V. Of the independently measured units here, only the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 provides 240 V split-phase.[2]

Is the Anker SOLIX F3800 Plus better than the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3?

On published specifications, clearly — more output, more surge, lower price. But no independent laboratory has measured the Anker's real usable capacity, and Anker's own page gives contradictory weight and solar figures.[4] We recommend the EcoFlow because its performance has been verified by someone other than the manufacturer.

Buy on measured hours, not advertised watt-hours

If your outages run into days, or anything you need is 240 V, the EcoFlow Delta Pro 3 is the evidence-backed answer: 93% measured efficiency, 3,790 usable watt-hours, three days of refrigeration and genuine split-phase output.

If your outages are hours — which for most people they are — the Bluetti Elite 200 V2 does thirty-six hours of fridge for a third of the money and has the longest rated life here.

If the unit also has to go camping, the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 carries better than anything else.

And whatever you buy, size it against the load you will actually run, not the fridge on its own. The gap between those two numbers is where people get caught out.
