Van power is a refill problem
Camping for a weekend, you arrive charged and leave empty. That is a capacity problem.
Living in a van, you arrive charged, and then have to keep arriving charged for weeks. That is a refill problem, and it changes which specifications matter:
- Solar input ceiling — how much roof you can usefully connect.
- Recharge speed on shore power — how much a two-hour café or campground stop is worth.
- Cycle life — you are cycling near-daily, not thirty times a year.
- Capacity — still matters, but it is the constraint you can most easily plan around.

1,710 measured usable watt-hours is the sweet spot for a van: a full weekend of refrigeration plus lights, laptop and phones without thinking about it, in a 38.9 lb box that one person can reposition.[1]
At 44 usable watt-hours per pound it is the most weight-efficient unit on this site — which matters in a vehicle where every pound is payload.
Two honest weaknesses for this use. The 400 W solar ceiling is low for a 2 kWh pack: if you put 600 W of panels on the roof, this unit cannot use them.[4] And its measured recharge of 2 h 30 fell 43% short of Jackery's 1 h 45 claim.[1]

More capacity than the Jackery at 1,910 Wh measured, 1,000 W of solar input, and 6,000 cycles to 80% — the longest rated life here, which for near-daily van cycling is worth years.[5][2]
One test timed a solar recharge from 25% to full in 3 hours 39 minutes at 520–600 W of real input, which is a genuinely useful figure for planning a driving day.[7]
The cost is weight: 53.35 lb against the Jackery's 38.9.[6] In a van that is a fixed installation rather than something you move, which is usually fine.

For a smaller van or a weekender, the Delta 3's 54-minute recharge changes what a stop is worth.[3] An hour plugged in at a campground is a full tank.
It is also the only 1 kWh unit here that expands to 5 kWh, so a modest build can grow without being replaced.[9] Its sub-10 ms switchover means shore power dropping out does not interrupt anything.
Recharging while driving
Every unit here can be charged from a 12 V socket, but the cigarette-lighter circuit is usually limited to about 120 W — roughly 8 amps. At that rate a 2 kWh pack takes well over a day of driving.
For real alternator charging you need a dedicated DC-DC charger wired to the starter battery, which is an installation rather than a cable. Anker sells an alternator charger for its SOLIX units; EcoFlow and Bluetti have their own approaches.
Sizing for a van
A typical van day looks roughly like this:

That is why 2 kWh is the common answer: a day's consumption plus margin. At 85% typical efficiency, 1,545 usable watt-hours needs a unit rated around 1,800 Wh — and the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2's measured 1,710 Wh covers it with a little to spare.
Then check the refill. 1,545 Wh a day from panels, at 75% of nominal output over a seven-hour window, needs roughly 300 W of panel — which the Jackery's 400 W ceiling accepts and a 1 kWh unit's 400 W ceiling would also accept, but only just.

What size power station do I need for a van?
About 2 kWh for full-time use with a compressor fridge — a typical van day comes to roughly 1,500 watt-hours. For weekend use, 1 kWh is usually enough. Size against measured usable capacity, not the rating.

Do power stations work as an RV shore power replacement?
For 120 V circuits, within their output limits, yes. Nothing here will run RV air conditioning for a useful period. Hard-wiring into an RV's distribution panel is an installation and should be done properly.
Two kilowatt-hours, and check the solar ceiling
The Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 is the default answer for a van: a day and a half of real consumption, the best weight ratio on this site, and enough capacity that you stop thinking about it.
Buy the Bluetti Elite 200 V2 instead if the roof is doing the refilling. Its 1,000 W ceiling against the Jackery's 400 W is the single biggest difference between these two units in this context, and its 6,000-cycle rating suits near-daily use.
Buy the EcoFlow Delta 3 for a smaller build where a one-hour refill at a campground is worth more than raw capacity.
And measure your roof before you choose. A 400 W ceiling under an 800 W array wastes half your panels.
