For most camping the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 is the right box: 910 Wh measured usable at 24.4 lb measured weight, which is 37.3 usable watt-hours per pound — the best ratio in its class — and about twenty hours of camp fridge.[1] If you need two nights, the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 carries even better at 44 Wh per pound.[2] If you camp near other people and recharge from panels, take the Bluetti Elite 100 V2 instead.

The only ratio that matters

At home, a power station's weight is irrelevant. At a campsite it is the whole experience — the difference between a one-hand carry from the tailgate and a trip you resent.

So the useful figure is not capacity and not weight but the two divided: usable watt-hours per pound. Both halves have been independently measured for every unit here.

Note that the 2 kWh Jackery has the best ratio on the list. Larger packs carry their inverter, case and handle overhead across more cells, so watt-hours per pound generally improves with size. The lightest unit is almost never the most efficient thing to carry — it is just the lightest.

The Explorer 1000 v2 delivers more usable energy than any other 1 kWh unit — 910 Wh, against 890 for the Anker and Bluetti and 870 for the EcoFlow — while weighing the least of the four at a measured 24.4 lb.[1]

Twenty hours of camp fridge covers a night comfortably with margin for phone charging and lights. It recharges in a measured 1 h 35, which matches Jackery's own claim.[1]

The compromises are real but mostly do not bite while camping: 1,500 W output (fine unless you brought an induction burner), a 400 W solar ceiling (fine on two panels, limiting on four), and cycles rated to 70% rather than 80% (irrelevant at thirty cycles a year).[3]

At 1,710 Wh measured usable and 38.9 lb measured, this is 44 usable watt-hours per pound — the best ratio of any unit on this site, and better than every 1 kWh box on the list.[2]

That is the counter-intuitive part of carrying batteries: the bigger unit is the more efficient thing to lift. Thirty-eight hours of camp fridge covers a full weekend without solar, which is the trip most 1 kWh units cannot quite manage.

Thirty-nine pounds is still thirty-nine pounds. It is a two-hand lift into a truck bed rather than a one-hand carry to a pitch, and its 400 W solar ceiling on a 2 kWh pack means solar recharging is slow going.[4]

Nine tenths of a pound heavier than the Jackery and twenty watt-hours lighter in capacity — a difference you will never notice at a campsite. In exchange you get 2,000 W of output instead of 1,500 W, a 56-minute recharge instead of 1 h 35, a 600 W solar ceiling instead of 400 W, and cycles rated to 80% rather than 70%.[5][6]

If the carry is short — car to pitch — this is the better unit and it costs less. The Jackery wins this list on the ratio; the Anker wins on everything you do once you have put it down.

Identical measured capacity to the Anker at 890 Wh, and the same broad weight.[7] The reason to choose it is a 1,000 W solar ceiling — two and a half times the Jackery's — which matters the moment you go beyond a starter pair of panels.[8]

For trips longer than a weekend where the sun does the refilling, that ceiling is worth more than the small differences elsewhere.

The small ones, and an honest warning

The EcoFlow River 2 Pro at 18.4 lb and the Anker SOLIX C300 at 9.1 lb are the genuinely light options.[10][11]

230 measured usable watt-hours runs a 45 W camp fridge for about five hours. That is not a night. The C300 is a phone-laptop-and-lights unit, and an excellent one at nine pounds, but do not buy it expecting to keep food cold.[11]

The River 2 Pro manages about fourteen hours of fridge, which covers a night — though it returned only 81% of its rating, the weakest efficiency of anything measured here.[10]

The pattern is consistent across every unit in this class: refrigeration and electronics are all day, anything that makes heat is minutes. Cook on gas.

FAQ

What size power station do I need for camping?

For one night with a 12 V fridge, lights and phones, roughly 500–600 usable watt-hours. For two nights without solar, about 1,200. Both assume you are not cooking electrically — if you are, double it and then some.

Which power station has the best weight-to-capacity ratio?

The Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 at 44 usable watt-hours per pound, followed by the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 at 37.3. Both figures use independently measured weight and independently measured usable capacity.[2][1]

Can I run a camp fridge all weekend on one charge?

On a 1 kWh unit, roughly 20 hours — so one night comfortably, two nights only with solar topping up. On a 2 kWh unit, about 38 hours, which covers a full weekend.

Is the Anker SOLIX C300 enough for camping?

Only for devices. Its 230 measured usable watt-hours run a camp fridge for about five hours — not a night.[11] As a nine-pound box for phones, a laptop and lights it is very good.

How loud are these at a campsite?

Nobody independent has measured any of them. Every decibel figure in this category comes from the manufacturer, and in Bluetti's case its own manual and marketing disagree by 20 dB.[8][9] We would not choose between these units on published noise figures.

Take the Jackery, unless the carry is short

On the ratio that decides camping, the Jackery Explorer 1000 v2 wins its class: the most usable watt-hours of any 1 kWh unit, in the lightest box.

But be honest about your carry. If it goes from the tailgate to a pitch twenty feet away, the Anker SOLIX C1000 Gen 2 is the better unit for less money — more output, faster recharge, more solar input, a stronger cycle rating — and the nine-tenths of a pound is meaningless.

For two nights, the Jackery Explorer 2000 v2 carries better than anything else here. For solar-led trips, the Bluetti Elite 100 V2. And do not buy the C300 to keep food cold — it will not.
